Tamil Nadu unveils new budget logo, sparks controversy
New Delhi: The Tamil Nadu government unveiled its new budget logo for the year 2025-26 on Thursday, replacing the Indian rupee symbol with Tamil characters. The logo features “ru,” the first letter of the Tamil word ‘rubai,’ which represents the Indian currency in the local language.
Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu is set to present the state’s budget for 2025-26 on Friday. The logo also carries the caption “Everything for All,” reflecting the DMK government’s inclusive approach.
The move has drawn criticism from the state BJP. Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai condemned the change, stating that the original rupee logo was designed by a Tamilian and adopted by all Indians.
This development comes amid ongoing tensions between the Tamil Nadu government and the Centre over language issues.
