Tohana kisan mahapanchayat unrelated to Khanauri agitation: Rakesh Tikait

New Delhi: Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait clarified that the kisan mahapanchayat held in Tohana has no connection with the ongoing Khanauri agitation.

Speaking at the event on Saturday, Tikait said, “The agitation by the Khanauri Border Committee has been ongoing for 10-11 months. The one-day panchayat in Tohana is focused on raising farmers’ demands, and the two are unrelated.”

The Tohana kisan mahapanchayat, organised under the banner of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), was attended by Tikait and farmer leader Joginder Singh Ugrahan.

Tikait emphasized that the Khanauri agitation is being spearheaded by a separate committee that had parted ways with the SKM.

“There is no new movement being initiated by the SKM at present,” Tikait explained. “We are holding meetings to address various issues, and where problems arise, we raise them. If the government does not respond, we will decide the next steps.”

Tikait further announced that a nationwide mahapanchayat will be held on January 7 under the SKM banner to highlight farmers’ concerns.
