Travel agent arrested for sending youth abroad with fake elderly identities

New Delhi: A 29-year-old Delhi resident, Bhupinder Singh, alias Vicky Nagra, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a passport and visa racket. He is accused of helping a young couple travel to Canada by posing as senior citizens.

The arrest follows an ongoing investigation into the scam, officials said on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Usha Rangnani stated that Singh’s arrest is linked to a broader probe into a gang engaged in forging identities and facilitating illegal immigration.

The group reportedly assisted individuals in obtaining fake passports and travel documents to fly abroad.

The investigation began in June when Gursewak Singh, 24, was caught at Indira Gandhi International Airport attempting to board a flight to Canada using a passport issued under the name of 67-year-old Rashwinder Singh.

Officials flagged discrepancies in his appearance, photo, and passport details, leading to his arrest.

During interrogation, Gursewak Singh disclosed that he and his wife, Archana Kaur, had paid Rs 30 lakh to an agent named Jagjit Singh, alias Jaggi, for fake passports and travel arrangements.

The couple also purchased flight tickets to Canada, intending to travel to the US via Canada.

Jaggi and three accomplices were arrested earlier, along with Archana, who was caught attempting to board the flight.

The gang is suspected of being part of a larger network involved in identity fraud and illegal immigration, authorities said. Further investigations are underway.
