Union Minister Nityanand Rai’s nephew shot dead in Bihar over water dispute

New Delhi: Union Minister Nityanand Rai’s nephew was shot dead on Thursday after a dispute over tap water escalated into violence in Jagatpur village, Naugachia police district, officials said. The victim’s mother and brother were seriously injured in the firing.

According to Naugachia Superintendent of Police Prerna Kumar, the altercation broke out between two brothers, Vishwajit and Jaijeet Yadav, over fetching water from a tap.

When their mother attempted to intervene, Vishwajit was shot dead on the spot. His mother and brother were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities confirmed that the deceased was the nephew (sister’s son) of Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, who hails from Vaishali district. An investigation is underway.
