US court rejects claim that India’s NSA Ajit Doval was served court documents
Washington: A US court has clarified that India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval was not given any court documents during his visit to Washington in February, rejecting Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu’s claim that the top Indian official was served with summons.
US District Judge Katherine Polk Failla, in a recent ruling, stated that the court reviewed the documents and found that they were not delivered to Doval.
“The court document was not supplied to any member or staff of the hotel management or to any officer or agent providing security to the defendant, as required by the order of the court,” the ruling said.
Pannu has filed a civil suit against Doval and another Indian citizen, Nikhil Gupta. Federal prosecutors have charged Gupta with colluding with an Indian public servant in an alleged failed plot to assassinate Pannu on US soil.
Pannu claimed in court documents that Doval had accompanied Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the US on February 12-13 to meet then-President Donald Trump and that he had appointed “two legal professionals and an investigator” to serve the court documents to Doval.
