Vinesh Phogat gets a grand welcome on her return from Paris
New Delhi: India’s star wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who missed out on winning a medal at the Paris Olympics after being disqualified for being overweight despite reaching the final in the women’s 50kg weight category, received a grand welcome upon her arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport today.
Tight security arrangements were in place for Vinesh’s arrival. She was disqualified after weighing in 100 grams over the required limit before the final at the Paris Olympics.
Vinesh had requested the Sports Arbitration Court for a joint silver medal, which led to her staying back in Paris. However, her appeal was rejected by the court.
London Olympics bronze medallist shooter and leader of the Indian contingent at the Paris Olympics, Gagan Narang, praised Vinesh as a champion.
Both of them arrived in Delhi on the same flight. Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and a large number of supporters were present to welcome Vinesh, treating her like a victorious wrestler.
