Virat Kohli retires from Test cricket, marks end of an era

New Delhi: India’s star batsman Virat Kohli has announced his retirement from Test cricket, bringing down the curtain on a remarkable 14-year career in the longest format of the game.

The 35-year-old cricketer shared the news in an emotional post on social media, calling the decision difficult but necessary.

“It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue jersey in Test cricket. Honestly, I never thought what journey this format would take me. It tested me, shaped me and taught me lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life,” Kohli wrote.

Reflecting on the challenges and rewards of the format, Kohli said, “Playing in white clothes is a very personal experience. Quiet hard work, long days, small moments that no one sees but which are always with you. When I am moving away from this format, it is not easy. But it seems right. I have given it everything and it has given me more than I expected.”

Kohli’s retirement marks the end of one of the most celebrated Test careers in Indian cricket history. He led India to historic victories at home and abroad and played a key role in redefining the team’s approach in red-ball cricket.
