Waqf Amendment Bill likely to be tabled in Parliament on April 2

New Delhi: The government is expected to table the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament on April 2, with its introduction first in the Lok Sabha. The ongoing session will continue until April 4.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said preparations are underway to introduce the bill in Parliament, adding that while discussions have taken place outside, it is essential to participate in debates within the House.

“The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the bill has conducted the largest consultation process in India’s democratic history. All political parties are urged not to mislead the public,” Rijiju said. He claimed that certain groups are falsely suggesting that the bill would take away the property and rights of Muslims.

Home Minister Amit Shah, in a March 29 interview with a private channel, confirmed that the Waqf Bill would be introduced in the budget session and assured that there was no cause for concern.

Meanwhile, protests against the bill were observed across the country, with many Muslims offering Eid prayers while wearing black bands. On March 28, the last Friday of Ramadan (Jumatul Vida), the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) urged Muslims nationwide to wear black badges and register a peaceful protest.

In a letter, the AIMPLB called on Muslims to strongly oppose the Waqf Amendment Bill, describing it as their responsibility.
