Glaciers are also a major source of water for the world. ’’

Guterres expressed concern that human activities are pushing the planet’s temperature to dangerous new levels and that “melting glaciers are extremely dangerous.” Antarctica is losing an average of 150 billion tonnes of ice every year, while Greenland’s ice is melting even faster. There are 270 billion tons of ice melting every year. Asia’s 10 major rivers originate in the Himalayan region, supplying water to the 1.3 billion people living in its watershed.
