Witness in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case changed statement after threats, says Manjit Singh GK

New Delhi: Surinder Singh, a key witness in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, changed his statement after receiving repeated threats, former Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) chairman Manjit Singh GK told a Delhi court.

GK made the revelation during his testimony in the Rouse Avenue court, where his statement was recorded by Special Judge Jitendra Singh through CBI counsel Amit Jindal. The case pertains to the Pul Bangash area violence during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

“When Surinder Singh met me, he told me that he had received threats several times, due to which he gave a different statement. I assured him that the community is with him and encouraged him to tell the truth,” GK said in court.

Following the assurance, Surinder Singh reportedly disclosed the truth to the CBI regarding the involvement of Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the case.

Senior advocate H S Phoolka expressed confidence that Tytler would be convicted based on the developments in the case.
