Woman impersonating police officer arrested in Kurukshetra; villagers stunned by revelation
Kurukshetra: A woman posing as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Haryana Police was recently arrested in Kurukshetra, leaving her village residents shocked.
The accused, identified as Anchal, had been seen by many in police uniform at various public events, including Pehowa Chaitra-Chaudas Mela, Balapur Mela, Arunay Mela, and Navratri Mela in Chandigarh. However, she had not been spotted in her native village for several months.
Her social media reels, where she appeared in full police uniform, had led villagers to believe she had joined the Haryana Police. Many even praised her, thinking she had become an officer.
According to villagers, Anchal was academically bright and had completed a B.Sc. She aspired to go to Canada but was unable to do so due to financial constraints. Her family had reportedly been looking for a suitor who could take her abroad after marriage.
A woman from a nearby village revealed that Anchal had befriended her daughter about a month ago at a tailoring shop in Gandhi Nagar. Claiming to be a police officer posted in Ismailabad, Anchal began frequenting their house and often stayed overnight.
On April 18, Anchal allegedly left the house with the woman’s daughter, saying she was heading to duty. When the girl failed to return and did not reach the tailoring shop as claimed, the family grew suspicious and contacted the shopkeeper—who confirmed she hadn’t arrived at all.
The incident eventually led to Anchal’s exposure and arrest. Investigations are underway to determine the extent of her impersonation and whether others were involved.
