Youth Congress leader Himani found murdered, mother refuses cremation

Rohtak: Youth Congress leader Himani was found murdered, with her body stuffed in a suitcase and dumped in bushes near the Sampla flyover on Saturday afternoon. Her mother has refused to cremate her, alleging that party leaders were behind the killing.

Himani’s mother, who arrived at the post-mortem site earlier in the day, criticized the police investigation and claimed that several party members were unhappy with her daughter’s rising profile.

Police have learned that Himani had attended a wedding in a Rohtak village three days ago. Teams are reviewing CCTV footage from the Rohtak bus stand and other areas near her residence.

Rohtak Congress leader Bibi Batra and former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda condemned the murder, calling it “tragic” and a “blot” on the BJP government.

Party sources said Himani was an active participant in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and had walked alongside him during the campaign.

Local residents revealed that Himani’s father, who had served in the Border Security Force (BSF), had settled in Rohtak. He died under mysterious circumstances a decade ago.
