After Chandigarh capital claim, Haryana plans to file contempt of court in apex court against Punjab on SYL issue

Punjab E News (Chandigarh):-  BJP party-led Haryana government is persistently cornering newly elected Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab as it yet again going to rake up another old issue to attack the state government.

The Haryana government is going to file a contempt of court petition against AAP government for deliberately not implementing the Supreme Court’s January 15, 2002, and June 4, 2004, orders to complete the remaining portion of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal.

Earlier, Haryana government had passed a resolution in the state assembly seeking claim on Chandigarh and urged the Centre to intervene to construct the SYL canal.

The government had earlier pleaded before apex court Punjab is not taking any interest to resolve matter.

Therefore, the government now considering to file a contempt of court petition against Punjab in the apex Court,’’ said a top      Haryana official in know of developments said adding that about 1.5 year had passed in the judgement but there is nothing has been done by the neighbouring state.

Haryana is seeking its share of over 3.2 MAF from Ravi and Beas waters and the completion of the canal are absolutely non-negotiable. At present, Haryana gets 1.62 MAF of Ravi and Beas water.

The Punjab, however, claimed that the water level has receded drastically and the situation is grim and it cannot share more with other state, officials said.

Meanwhile, in the last Punjab Assembly Elections, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal had  reportedly said the Delhi and Haryana have right on Punjab's water.
