AAP’s Satyendar Jain criticizes BJP govt over plan to shut 250 mohalla clinics

New Delhi: Senior AAP leader Satyendar Jain on Friday criticized the BJP-led Delhi government for its alleged plan to shut down 250 mohalla clinics, calling it a move that would paralyze the city’s healthcare infrastructure.

Addressing a press conference, Jain urged the government to expand the number of clinics rather than reducing them.

He highlighted that mohalla clinics offer essential medical services, including consultations and 365 types of free diagnostic tests. The initiative, he said, was introduced to provide healthcare closer to people’s homes, reducing the need for long-distance travel to hospitals.

Jain stated that Delhi currently has 550 mohalla clinics, and closing them would be a major mistake affecting public health. According to him, an average of 7,500 patients receive treatment at these clinics daily, and shutting them down would severely impact the city’s healthcare system.

Meanwhile, Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh announced the immediate closure of 250 mohalla clinics on Thursday, alleging that they exist only on paper and are being used for fraudulent activities. The mohalla clinic initiative was first launched by the AAP government in October 2015.
