Dera chief seeks 20-day parole ahead of Haryana assembly polls

New Delhi: Dera Sacha Sauda chief and rape convict Gurmeet Ram Rahim has sought 20-day parole. The appeal comes days ahead of the October 5 Haryana Assembly elections.

Official sources said that with the model code of conduct in force, the parole application of the Dera chief has been forwarded to the Election Office, which has asked the jail department to give reasons in the past which justify the release of the accused on parole during the elections.

The Dera chief has said that he will stay in Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh during the parole period if he gets permission.
