Farmers to march to Delhi from Shambhu border on December 14
Chandigarh: Farmers from the Shambhu border, who have been protesting in support of their demands, will march to Delhi on December 14, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher announced during a press conference today.
The decision follows extensive discussions among farmer leaders about the next phase of their struggle.
The march comes nearly 10 months after the morchas began at the Shambhu and Dhabai Gujjar borders, located between Haryana and Punjab, in February. Farmer leaders had earlier decided to adopt a peaceful approach by marching on foot without tractors or trolleys.
Under this strategy, it was announced that groups of 101 farmers, referred to as marjivdas, would be sent to Delhi in phases starting December 6.
However, attempts by the first group to march on December 6 were thwarted by Haryana Police, who prevented them from crossing the Shambhu border.
Tear gas was reportedly used, along with other forms of force, to disperse the group. A second attempt by another batch of farmers on December 8 also faced similar resistance from the police.
Despite these setbacks, the farmers remain resolute in their plans to continue the march to Delhi as part of their ongoing protest.
