Lok Sabha elections not fought on level playing field, Rahul Gandhi alleges at US

Washington: During a recent visit to the United States, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the results of the general elections in India have shattered the “idea of Modi” and that the fear created by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has disappeared, becoming “history.”

Speaking at an event at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., Gandhi, who serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, claimed that the BJP-led ruling coalition had collapsed unexpectedly.

Addressing the audience, Gandhi said that there were no equal opportunities for all candidates in the Lok Sabha elections. He further said that the fear surrounding Modi “vanished in a second” following the election results, despite years of efforts and investments to create it.

Gandhi added that Modi’s image of strength and invincibility—symbolized by the concept of a “56-inch chest” and a claimed connection with divinity—has now faded into history. His comments came amid his four-day visit to the US, where he has been engaging with the Indian diaspora and political leaders.
