Mahapanchayat: Dallewal urges farmers nationwide to join the fight

Chandigarh: Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a hunger strike at the Dhabai Gujjaran border for the past 40 days, addressed a mahapanchayat on Thursday, calling on farmers across the country to unite in the ongoing struggle.

Dallewal, who leads the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political), expressed gratitude to the large number of supporters who gathered at the site, urging them to continue the fight.

“Though I am fasting unto death to push this cause forward, it is now the responsibility of the people to ensure victory,” Dallewal said. He remained resolute, stating, “The morcha will achieve success. While implementing a legal guarantee for MSP is challenging, we cannot afford to sit idle.”

Highlighting the plight of farmers, Dallewal revealed that seven lakh farmers across India have lost their lives due to mounting debt. He also alleged that police attempted to detain him but were thwarted by volunteers.

The farmer leader expressed sorrow over a recent accident involving buses carrying farmers to the mahapanchayat. The tragedy claimed the lives of three women farmers and injured 41 others. He appealed for one trolley from every village in Punjab to join the protest at Khanauri.

Meanwhile, doctors at the site advised Dallewal to limit his speech, warning that prolonged discussions could worsen his already fragile health.
