Mayor Amarjeet Singh Sidhu gets big relief from High Court; Suspension orders stayed
Punjabenews: Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu has got a big relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The court stayed the order dismissing Jeeti Sidhu from the post of mayor and councillor.
After this, Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu will continue to be the Mayor of Mohali Municipal Corporation. It may be recalled that the court had yesterday reserved its verdict related to the case.
The matter has been posted for further hearing on April 20. It may be recalled that the Punjab government had cancelled the membership of Jeeti Sidhu last week as a councillor, which was challenged by Jeeti Sidhu in the High Court, on which the High Court today gave him a big relief.
The local government department had issued a show-cause notice to Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu on September 15. In which it was said that he has given work to the society of which he himself is a member. Doing so is a violation of the rules. He was asked to respond within 15 days.
The mayor had then filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court two days before the expiry of the 15-day period instead of submitting his reply to the government, seeking quashing of the notice.
