Navjot Sidhu not released from jail, supporters disappoint

Punjabenews: Supporters of jailed Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu have made preparations to welcome the former cricketer in Patiala on Thursday. Sidhu was supposed to be released on republic day due to good conduct, but now his release has been postponed for the time being.

However, there was no official word from the Punjab government on Sidhu’s early release on Republic Day.
Sidhu is serving a one-year jail term in Patiala Central Jail in the 1988 road rage case. One person was killed in the incident. There was speculation in a section of the media that Sidhu may be among the 50 prisoners who may be given special remission on Republic Day. There was no official word from the state government on Sidhu’s release. Official sources said the cricketer-turned-politician will not be released on Thursday.
