Record 22 Punjabis elected to Canada’s House of Commons
Ottawa: A record 22 Punjabis have been elected to Canada’s House of Commons in the latest parliamentary elections. This marks the highest number of Punjabi representatives ever elected to the federal legislature. In comparison, 18 Punjabis were elected in 2021, and 20 in 2019.
In Brampton, Punjabis from different political parties secured five seats. Ruby Sahota of the Liberal Party defeated Conservative Amandeep Judge in Brampton North. In Brampton East, Liberal candidate Maninder Sidhu won against Conservative Bob Dosanjh, while Amandeep Sohi of the Liberal Party defeated Taran Chahal in Brampton Centre.
Meanwhile, two seats in Brampton were won by Conservative candidates. Sukhdeep Kang defeated Liberal incumbent Sonia Sidhu in Brampton South, and Amarjit Gill ousted sitting minister Kamal Khera in Brampton West.
