SGPC begins consultations with Sikh bodies over Rajoana’s plea withdrawal

Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has initiated consultations with Sikh organisations to discuss the withdrawal of Balwant Singh Rajoana’s plea seeking remission of his death sentence. SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami recently visited Rajoana, who is currently lodged in Patiala jail.
Dhami held a meeting with representatives of various Sikh religious organisations on Monday.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, he said a larger gathering of Sikh organisations would soon be convened at Teja Singh Samundri Hall to deliberate on the matter. He also plans to hold further discussions with federations and Sikh scholars.
According to Dhami, Rajoana has expressed his desire to withdraw the plea. Reports suggest that Rajoana had opposed the remission petition from the beginning.
