Shatabdi delayed by two hours, 20 trains affected amid farmers protest
Chandigarh: The farmers’ organisations have been protesting against the Centre and the state government for legal guarantee of crops and other demands.
The Shatabdi train (12046) from Chandigarh railway station was delayed by two hours following the call of farmers’ dharnas.
On this occasion, the protesting farmers blocked the railway track near Lalru. The Shatabdi was scheduled to depart from Chandigarh at 12.05 pm but the train left at 2.05 pm due to the blockade by farmers near Lalru.
A senior railway official said that 20 trains have been affected due to the farmers’ protest. The passengers, who were scheduled to reach New Delhi at 3.30 pm, looked upset after the delay.
A senior railway official said that the railways decided to delay the Shatabdi to ensure that passengers do not face any inconvenience midway.
According to this official, if the centenary crosses Lalru around 3 pm, the protesting farmers will end the agitation as they had announced to protest till 3 pm on October 13.
