Supreme Court reinstates Khalsa University Act
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has set aside the High Court’s May 29, 2017 verdict and ruled in favour of Khalsa University. Khalsa University management has also announced to start classes from the 2025-26 academic session.
It may be recalled that in 2016, the Akali government had passed the Khalsa University Act, but the Captain government had challenged the Act in the High Court and the High Court had quashed the Act.
The Khalsa College Management has filed a case in the Supreme Court for the Khalsa University Act 2016, under which the Supreme Court has canceled the 2017 Review Act today.
After this decision, Khalsa University will now start admissions from next year. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, honorary secretary of the Khalsa College Management Committee, hailed the supreme court’s decision. After this decision, there was a wave of congratulations in the Khalsa College Governing Council office.
