Tributes paid to Rajiv Gandhi on his 33rd death anniversary
New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and party MP Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday paid tributes to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 33rd death anniversary at Veer Bhumi in Delhi.
Congress leaders P Chidambaram and Sachin Pilot also paid tributes to the former prime minister in the national capital.
Rajiv Gandhi took over the reins of the Congress in 1984 after the assassination of his mother and then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and became the youngest Prime Minister of India at the age of 40. He served as the Prime Minister of India till December 2, 1989.
Born on August 20, 1944, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a Liberation Tiger of the Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in a suicide attack during an election rally at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu on May 21, 1991.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi by posting on X.
