“We are also a part of India…”: Dallewal appeals to Supreme Court and Centre
Chandigarh: The bandh called by farmers across Punjab garnered overwhelming support, with only minor disputes reported in some areas.
Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on a fast unto death, expressed gratitude to the people of Punjab for their cooperation in making the protest a success.
Speaking on the 35th day of his hunger strike, Dallewal declared that the Punjab bandh called by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) had effectively dismantled the doubts held by both the Punjab and central governments.
He said that widespread participation from all sections of society, including city residents and people from Chandigarh, emphasized the impact of the bandh.
“We have sent a clear message to the entire nation,” Dallewal said, adding that the success of the bandh demonstrated the failure of the government’s plans.
Appeal to the Supreme Court and government
Ahead of a Supreme Court hearing scheduled for tomorrow, Dallewal made a heartfelt appeal, stating, “We are also a part of India.” He urged the central government to address the concerns of farmers and reconsider their policies.
Allegations of police preparation
Dallewal also alleged that authorities were planning to detain him. He claimed that preparations to take him into custody were underway, including mobilizing bus drivers for the operation.
However, the drivers reportedly refused to cooperate. Dallewal expressed gratitude to these drivers for their support, describing their actions as a sign of solidarity with the farmers’ movement.
