After 30 years, Court terms dismissal illegal, orders Punjab government to pay salary/pension benefits to officer since 1993
The officer, dismissed by the Punjab government in 1993 after serving in the Indian Army, has concluded a 30-year legal battle with a favorable outcome. The Punjab and Haryana High Court declared the 1993 dismissal of the petitioner as illegal. Additionally, the court has directed the reinstatement of the petitioner into service from the date of dismissal, payment of salary and other entitlements until the retirement age in 2003, and the provision of pension benefits post-retirement.
Rameshwar Das, a resident of Sangrur, filed the petition, outlining his service in the Indian Army from November 30, 1962, to May 26, 1970. Subsequently, in 1974, he joined the Food and Supplies Department of the Punjab Government. Later, he assumed the role of Inspector in the Punjab State Civil Supplies Corporation at Lahragaga in Sangrur.
However, in 1984, Das was transferred back to his parent department. Following this, in 1986, he faced a show-cause notice, suspension, and allegations of supervising the reduction of 12850 quintals of food grains. During the inquiry, he was found guilty, leading to his dismissal in 1993.
