Akal Takht grants 20-day extension for resignations of Sukhbir and SAD office-bearers

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) working president Balwinder Singh Bhunder announced today that Sri Akal Takht Sahib has granted a 20-day extension to the party to process the resignations of its office-bearers, including party president Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Responding to questions about the delay in complying with the directive from Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Bhunder said that the party had sought additional time from the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib to complete the necessary procedures.

“The Singh Sahiban have approved a 20-day extension, and further decisions will be taken in due course,” he added.

Bhunder also criticized the timing of the municipal council elections announced by the State Election Commission. He argued that the elections coincide with the Sikh community’s observance of Shaheedi Fortnight after December 15.

Calling the decision inappropriate, he urged the Election Commission to revise the dates in consideration of Sikh sentiments.
