Akali Dal core committee meets after foiled attack on Sukhbir Badal; SGPC chief meets Jathedar

Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is holding a crucial core committee meeting in Chandigarh today following a foiled attack on party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal in Amritsar. The meeting is scheduled to commence at 3:30 PM.

Ahead of the meeting, SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami made an unannounced visit to Amritsar to meet Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh.

The two held a closed-door discussion for about an hour, marking their first interaction since Sri Akal Takht Sahib issued directives concerning the Akali Dal and the attack on Sukhbir Badal.

While Advocate Dhami did not comment to the media after the meeting, it is speculated that the discussions revolved around the upcoming core committee meeting in Chandigarh.

The meeting comes after Sri Akal Takht Sahib criticized the Akali Dal on December 2 for incidents that occurred during its previous government.

The Sikh apex body directed the party to restructure itself by forming a new Akali Dal within six months and to appoint new leaders in accordance with the rules.
