Bizzare incident: Punjab police have to produce rooster as witness in court hearing

Chandigarh: In a bizzare incident, the chicken has to be produced in the court hearing by Punjab police. According to the information, police conducted a raid in Bathinda based on information about a cockfight competition, leading to the alive chicken’s recovery. Now, the rooster has become a piece of evidence in the case, requiring the police to present it in court at each appearance. Moreover, the police must maintain custody of the chicken and ensure its proper care.

The competition took place two days ago in Balluana village, Bathinda. During the police raid, spectators and organizers fled the scene. The chicken, intended for fighting, was seized by the police.

According to law enforcement, the chicken is considered a victim in this case, as the government has prohibited animal competitions. There are directives to file charges against individuals organizing such events, citing cruelty to birds and animals. Therefore, this case falls under the category of animal cruelty.

Currently, the police have released the rooster to an acquaintance. To prevent any harm, responsibility for the rooster has been entrusted to a chicken keeper. The police are actively monitoring its well-being to ensure its safety.

Nirmaljit Singh, the investigating officer, affirmed that the rooster is under police care and will remain in custody until the trial. It will be presented in court during the proceedings.
