Blue Star anniversary: Pro-Khalistan slogans raised at Akal Takht during tribute ceremony

Amritsar: The 40th anniversary of the June 1984 military attack was commemorated with pro-Khalistan slogans at the Akal Takht today, and the wreath-laying ceremony concluded peacefully. A near-complete shutdown occurred in the city as part of the call for an Amritsar bandh by Dal Khalsa.

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh issued a message to the Sikh community, urging unity and collaboration to resolve national issues. Members of the martyrs’ families were also honored on the occasion.

The bhog of the path held at the Akal Takht was completed, and kirtan was performed. A large number of Sikh sangat were present.

After the ceremony, former MP Simranjit Singh Mann addressed the gathering near the Akal Takht. Parallel Jathedar Dhyan Singh Mand also issued a message to the Sikh community, appealing for unity.

However, during their addresses, the organizers raised the volume of the kirtan at the Akal Takht, preventing the voice of both Sikh leaders from reaching the sangat.

A large number of Sikh youth gathered and raised slogans of “Khalistan Zindabad” and “Bhindranwale Zindabad,” carrying posters about the Saka Blue Star military attack.

Tight security arrangements were made by the SGPC at the Golden Temple complex during the event. Additionally, a significant presence of Punjab Police, dressed in white, was observed. Security was stringent both inside and outside the complex, with barricades set up and police monitoring all activities.
