CM continues extensive tour of flood affected areas of the state

Says Will compensate people for loss of every single penny

Ferozepur: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday continued his tour of flood affected areas of the state and announced that state government will compensate people for loss of every single penny.

The Chief Minister, who visited village Nihala Lavera to oversee flood relief operations, said that a special girdawari will be conducted to ascertain the loss of crops, houses and others due to heavy rainfall in the state. He said that detailed instructions have been issued to the Deputy Commissioners to immediately carry out girdawari in the areas lashed by rains to ascertain damage caused to crops, houses, animals and others on priority. Bhagwant Mann assured the people that the government is committed to safeguarding their interests against nature’s fury.

The Chief Minister said that he has extensively touted the state to gauge the situation at the grass root level. Bhagwant Mann said that the state government is duty bound to help the people in this hour of grave crisis and no stone is being left unturned for this noble cause. He said that succour is being provided even to the last person at the far flung areas of the state.

The Chief Minister said that special thrust is being laid to ensure relief in the worst affected areas of the state so that people do not face any sort of problem. Bhagwant Mann said that priority is being given to carry rescue and relief work in the badly affected areas of the state. He said that all the dams in the state are safe and water is flowing below the danger mark.

The Chief Minister said that due to heavy flow of water the paddy crop in many fields have been destroyed. However, he said that to safeguard the interests of the farmers the state government will soon provide free saplings to the farmers of high yielding variety of paddy. Bhagwant Mann said that he had already directed the Punjab Agriculture University, PUNSEED, Agriculture department and others to plant the saplings of these varieties.

The Chief Minister said that these saplings will be ready in another four-five days after which it will be disbursed free of cost to the farmers. He said that the water has affected around 15 districts of the state where these saplings, if needed, will be distributed to the food growers. Bhagwant Mann said that the state government is with the farmers of the state in this hour of severe crisis.

The Chief Minister further said that it is heartening to learn that water is receding fastly in state due to which relief and rescue works are getting impetus. He also lauded the teams of BSF/ NDRF for giving a major helping hand to the state government for relief works. Bhagwant Mann said that the state is known for serving the masses in hostile situations and we will overcome this challenge too.

The Chief Minister said that Punjabis had once again displayed rare courage and strength to combat this crisis. He said that Punjabis are blessed with indomitable spirit of fighting against all odds due to which they have survived since ages. Bhagwant Mann said that people of Punjab had helped each other in a big way by displaying remarkable bonhomie and harmony.
