CM Mann’s rural tourism initiative boosts economy and employment

Punjab E News: Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has taken a significant step to promote rural tourism in Punjab, aiming to uplift the rural economy and create employment opportunities. 

Mann’s government is working at the grassroots level to enhance livelihoods across the state, with a focus on engaging rural communities in economic growth. One key initiative, the “farm stay” program, is designed to provide economic benefits to rural families, particularly women, and showcase Punjabi culture to visitors.

The Punjab Farm Stay Program is opening new avenues for sustainable tourism, employment generation, and economic prosperity in the state. 

Known for its hospitality and rich cultural heritage, Punjab’s rural areas offer unique opportunities for farm and home stays, allowing tourists to experience the authentic essence of Punjabi village life.

To capitalize on these opportunities, the Punjab government is encouraging farm and homestay options as peaceful retreats for tourists. Recognizing that farm tourism can serve as a significant employment source, especially for women, the state is also focusing on agri-tourism to help increase farmers’ incomes. 

The Punjab Tourism Department facilitates online registration for various categories—farm stays, bed and breakfast homestays, tented accommodations, and camping sites. To date, over 50 farmhouses and 80 bed-and-backyard units have registered, with applicants able to complete the process from home.

Agri-tourism creates employment for women

At Punjab’s first Tourism and Travel Summit, experts highlighted the potential for rural and eco-tourism to boost employment, particularly for women. 

Given that Punjab’s roots are in its villages, promoting agri-tourism could open more opportunities for rural women. The state’s rich agricultural heritage, if tapped effectively, could further bolster economic growth while providing a unique tourism experience.
