Cabinet Minister launches 14 E-vehicles for waste collection in Jalandhar

New initiative includes digital payment system for rehdi owners

Jalandhar: Punjab Cabinet Minister Balkar Singh today launched 14 E-vehicles equipped with a hydraulic lift system for waste collection in the city, marking a significant step towards improving waste management. Speaking at the launch event, the Minister emphasized that these vehicles will collect waste in a segregated manner, ensuring proper disposal. He announced that a total of 100 such vehicles would soon be operational in Jalandhar, boosting the city’s cleanliness drive.

In a groundbreaking move, the Minister also introduced the digital tehbazari system in the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, allowing Rehdi (street cart) owners to pay their charges online through QR codes, streamlining the payment process and enhancing transparency.

During his visit, the Minister inspected a medical camp organized for sanitation workers and praised the Jalandhar Corporation’s efforts in enrolling these workers under the E-Shram portal. Additionally, he highlighted the provision of benefits such as the New Pension Scheme and IHRMS for sanitation workers, underscoring their importance in maintaining city hygiene.

Minister Balkar Singh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of sanitation workers, calling them an integral part of society. Other dignitaries present included MLA Mohinder Bhagat, Chairman Punjab Safai Karamchari Commission Chandan Grewal, Chairman District Planning Board Amritpal Singh, and Commissioner MCJ Gautam Jain.
