Election Commission to announce dates for Punjab civic polls; AAP fully geared up, says Aman Arora
Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced its readiness for the upcoming Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council elections in Punjab. Party president Aman Arora confirmed during a press briefing in Chandigarh on December 1 that strategies have been finalized following meetings with ministers and legislators.
Arora expressed confidence that AAP would replicate its success in recent by-elections, asserting that the party is well-prepared for the municipal polls. However, he emphasized that the Election Commission would decide the polling dates.
When questioned about objections raised by the BJP regarding December-end elections due to religious observances, Arora acknowledged the sensitivity of the issue. “Our party takes this matter seriously, but the decision lies with the State Election Commission,” he said.
He also noted discussions with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), who highlighted that the matter is under judicial review in the High Court and Supreme Court. Arora added that no elections are scheduled for Sirhind, Chamkaur Sahib, or Fatehgarh Sahib.
The Election Commission’s decision on the dates is awaited amidst ongoing preparations by political parties.
