Electoral literacy clubs engaged to educate voters towards ethical voting

SVEEP officials visiting educational institutions to sensitize students across the district

Jalandhar: Further intensifying its drive to spread awareness among voters to participate in the upcoming bye elections on May 10, officials from SVEEP core committee are holding meetings with the electoral literacy clubs at educational institutions.

Assistant Nodal Officer SVEEP Surjit Lal said that on the directions of District Election Officer Jaspreet Singh a slew of activities are being carried out to create awareness among voters. He also described the role of ELCs in making the students and prospective voters aware of the importance of Right to Vote. He said that it was a matter of great pride and satisfaction youth were the largest stakeholders in the democratic system of the country. He added that members of ELCs are being encouraged to reach out their parents, relatives and friends registered as voters to urge them to participate in elections in huge numbers.

He also said that the aim of setting up Electoral Literacy Clubs in schools was to make the prospective voters especially the students of 10+1 and 10+2 in schools and colleges aware of voting rights so that they further galvanise their parents, near and dear ones to participate in elections. He said that it was all the more important to make youth an active partner in the democratic process of the country. The activities under the Electoral Literacy Clubs have already been expedited to make more and more students aware of their democratic rights, he added. He mentioned that officials are frequently visiting the ELCs to engage young students in this process.
