Family protests over murder of newly-wed, blocks national highway

Chandigarh: Demanding justice for Jaspreet Kaur, a newly-wed woman allegedly murdered by her in-laws in Village Narengarh Sohian, Barnala district, her family, along with various organizations, staged a protest. The demonstrators blocked the Barnala-Moga National Highway at the Tallewal canal bridge.

Jaspreet’s father, Ajmer Singh, and farmer leaders, including Buta Singh Chakar, Kulwant Singh Bhadaur, Darshan Singh Mehta, and Karamjit Singh Nita, claimed she was brutally killed by her husband, Harmanpreet Singh, and his family just 24 days after their marriage.

So far, police have arrested only the husband, while three other accused remain at large. The family has vowed to continue the protest until all suspects are apprehended, delaying the last rites until justice is served.

According to SHO Tallewal Nirmaljit Singh, efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects, with police teams actively pursuing them.
