Farmer Sukhjit Singh Hardojhanda begins fast unto death amid farmers’ agitation

Chandigarh: Farmer leader Sukhjit Singh Hardojhanda has commenced a fast unto death to press for the implementation of demands previously accepted by the Central government.

The development follows the detention of another farmer leader, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, by police on Tuesday morning before he could begin his hunger strike.

Following Dallewal’s detention, farmer leaders convened an emergency meeting at the Haryana-Punjab border near Dhabai Gujjars/Khanauri, where it was decided that Hardojhanda would take up the protest.

During a press conference held at the protest site, farmer leader Lakhwinder Singh Sirsa announced Hardojhanda’s decision to proceed with the hunger strike.

Speaking on the occasion, Hardojhanda stated, “If my health deteriorates, my body should not be removed from this site until all our issues are resolved.”

The protest continues as farmer unions demand the Central government fulfill the promises made during earlier negotiations.
