Former Faridkot SP and two others surrender in Rs 20 lakh bribery case

Chandigarh: The former Faridkot SP, Gagnesh Kumar Sharma, and another individual, Jaswinder Singh Jassi, a contractor, who were absconding in a bribery case involving Rs 20 lakh, surrendered at the vigilance office in Ferozepur on Tuesday.

The bribe was demanded by intimidating the complainant in the name of IG Faridkot in the four-year-old Baba Dayal Das murder case of village Kotsukhia of Kotkapura. Vigilance Ferozepur SSP Gurmeet Singh confirmed the arrest of the duo.

On February 28, 2024, the SP’s bail was rejected by the High Court upon Vigilance’s appeal. The anticipatory bail pleas of both the accused were rejected by the district court and the high court, and they were being pressured by the vigilance for arrest.

The two will be produced before a Faridkot court on Wednesday and taken into remand for interrogation. According to the information, after receiving a clean chit of the main accused in the Baba Dayal Das murder case of village Kotsukia, the complainant Baba Gagan Das had applied to the IG of Faridkot Range to conduct a fresh investigation, on which the IG formed an SIT under the leadership of SP Gagnesh Kumar Sharma.

Apart from the SP involved in the said SIT, DSP Faridkot Sushil Kumar and SI Khemchand Parashar of the IG office, along with two other private individuals, Mahant Malkit Das and Jaswinder Singh Jassi Contractor, started demanding Rs 50 lakh from Baba Gagan Das for re-nominating Baba Jarnail Das in the murder case.
