Gang war in Kapurthala jail leaves four prisoners injured

Chandigarh: A violent clash broke out between two rival groups of prisoners at Modern Jail Kapurthala late last night, leaving four inmates injured. The altercation reportedly stemmed from an old dispute.

The injured prisoners have been identified as Simranjit Singh, Vishal, Sunil (34), and Mukesh (35). Vishal, who is serving a sentence for murder, was among those wounded in the confrontation.

The jail authorities rushed the injured to the Civil Hospital, where Mukesh, whose condition was deemed critical, was referred to Amritsar Medical College for advanced treatment. The other two injured inmates were treated and later returned to jail.

Following the incident, Station House Officer (SHO) Manjit Singh from Police Station City-2 and a Police Control Room (PCR) team visited the Civil Hospital and initiated an investigation.

Police sources confirmed that the clash was fueled by an ongoing feud between the groups.
