Hansraj Badminton Stadium gets Rs.15.60 lakhs grant from Cricketer Harbhajan Singh

Funds will be used to get new modern machinery for the gymnasium project

Jalandhar : Cricketer and Aam Aadmi Party MP S. Harbhajan Singh has given a grant of Rs 15.60 lakh from his MPLAD fund to purchase new modern machinery for the gymnasium being built at Raizada Hansraj Badminton Stadium. MP S. Harbhajan Singh handed the letter regarding this grant to District Badminton Association Secretary and former national player Mr. Ritin Khanna on tuesday.

Giving information about this, Mr. Ritin Khanna said that DBA was short of funds to purchase new machinery for the gymnasium. In this regard, a request for grant was made to MP Harbhajan Singh. Actually, Harbhajan Singh has an old association with Hansraj Badminton Stadium. In the early days of his career, he used to come here to play badminton and for his fitness training. Mr. Khanna told that Mr. Harbhajan Singh immediately accepted our request and instructed the Deputy Commissioner to send the funds to the PWD department from his MPLADS. Now this grant will fund the stadium’s new gymnasium with world-class equipments including treadmill, cross trainer, bicycle, cable cross and a variety of machinery.
Khanna said this machinery will be of great benefit to the players because weight training is very important for badminton players and in the absence of proper machinery, the players could not train well. Member Secretary Ritin Khanna also thanked Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner & DBA President Sh.Vishesh Sarangal (IAS) who helped association in getting this grant.

It is worth mentioning that in the last 4 years, Rs 85 lakhs have been spent on the rejuvenation of the Raizada Hansraj Badminton stadium. With these funds new synthetic courts, Yoga Aerobics Centre, Physiotherapy Centre, Sports Shop and a Restaurant has been constructed. Apart from this, the District Badminton Association has organized major tournaments like District, State level and North Zone in which players were given cash and other attractive prizes worth lakhs of rupees.
