Lawrence Bishnoi’s video not made in Punjab jails: Punjab Police
Chandigarh: The Punjab Prisons Department has dismissed media reports about the use of mobile phones in the state’s jails and termed as “misleading” the video that has gone viral on social media, saying the video has nothing to do with the jails in the state. The department says that a video has been circulated on social media in which Bishnoi was seen talking to Monu Manesar through a WhatsApp video call in jail
In the video, another person is seen sitting on a chair in the office with Bishnoi. Through this video, it was alleged that Bishnoi was using the phone while in custody in Bathinda jail.
The investigation of the case was handed over to the Inspector General of Prisons Punjab. After investigation, it has been found that the person sitting with Lawrence Bishnoi in the video has been identified as Rajkumar alias Raju Bishnoi. Rajkumar was lodged in district jail Sri Muktsar Sahib for 28 days from January 25, 2021 to February 22, 2021.
The prisons department claimed that as per government records, Lawrence Bishnoi stayed in central jail Faridkot till 2018 as he was handed over to the police of another state on January 4, 2018. He then remained in jails in other states and was brought to Central Jail Bathinda on September 24, 2022 and Bishnoi was again handed over to Gujarat Police on August 24, 2023.
