Lohian Khas leads with 28 unanimous elections

195 Panchayats elected unopposed ahead of Panchayat polls in Jalandhar

Jalandhar News: In a significant development ahead of the panchayat elections scheduled for October 15, 2024, a total of 195 panchayats have been elected unanimously in the district. 

Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that the Lohian Khas block led with 28 panchayats elected unopposed, followed by Jalandhar West with 25, Phillaur with 24, and Nakodar with 20. Other blocks, including Shahkot, Bhogpur, Nurmahal, Rurkan Kalan, Mehatpur, Adampur, and Jalandhar East, have also seen multiple unanimous elections with 19, 17, 15, 14, 13, 11, and 9 panchayats respectively.

Dr. Aggarwal informed that after withdrawal of nomination papers a total of 1662 candidates for Sarpanch and 5464 for Panch positions have left in the fray, who will contest elections at 1014 polling booths across 691 Gram Panchayats. Likewise, stay orders of court will be effective on the election of four villages. He emphasized that the District Administration has made comprehensive arrangements to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections. “We are leaving no stone unturned,” he stated, highlighting that robust security measures are in place to maintain peace during the elections.

The Deputy Commissioner urged voters to exercise their right responsibly and freely on polling day. Voting will take place from 8 am to 4 pm, with the counting of votes to begin immediately after the polls conclude. Meanwhile, the DC also reviewed arrangements made for the conduct of elections and issued necessary directions to the officials concerned.
