Ludhiana RTA secretary fined Rs 5,000 for not issuing license for 145 days

The Ludhiana consumer forum has levied a fine of Rs 5,000 on the RTA secretary for failing to issue a person’s driving license within 145 days. This fine must be paid within 30 days following the court order.
The complainant, Jodha Singh, lodged a complaint with the consumer forum, stating that he had applied for a driving license on August 15, 2022. Document scrutiny was completed on August 18, 2022. However, the driving license was only issued on January 14, 2023, causing a delay of 145 days beyond the scheduled time.
Legal action was initiated by Jodha Singh on December 20, 2022. In this case, there was significant negligence in the services provided by the RTA (Regional Transport Authority), a clear violation of the Punjab Transparency and Accountability in Delivery of Public Services Act 2018. A year later, the court ruled in favor of Jodha Singh.
