Manisha Gulati takes charge as chairperson of Punjab State Women’s Commission

Chandigarh: Manisha Gulati today took charge of her post after the AAP government withdrew its decision to remove the chairperson of the Punjab State Women’s Commission.

A few days ago, the Punjab government had issued a letter withdrawing its decision through which the government had extended the term of the post of chairperson of the Women’s Commission.
The government had said that Manisha Gulati’s term of office could not be extended. Manisha Gulati had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the Punjab government. She told the court that the government had prematurely dismissed her from the post. Thus, with the intervention of the High Court, the post of head of the commission was restored. Today she has taken charge of her post. On this occasion, Manisha Gulati said that the Women’s Commission has been getting an extended period in the past.
It was a battle for her honour as the government had said that the term of the chairperson’s post could not be extended. She also said that she was looking forward to meeting Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
