Narayan Chauda’s police remand extended by three days in Sukhbir Singh Badal attack case
Amritsar: A local court on Sunday extended the police remand of Narayan Singh Chauda, the man accused of attacking Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Sukhbir Singh Badal, by three days. Chauda, who was initially remanded on December 5, was presented before the court after his earlier remand expired.
The attack occurred on December 4 within the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar. Chauda allegedly attempted to shoot Sukhbir Singh Badal near Sri Harmandir Sahib, but the act was thwarted by an alert police officer. Authorities are continuing their interrogation as part of the investigation.
Narayan Chauda has a controversial history, including multiple visits to Pakistan before returning to India in 1995. He has also been implicated in aiding the escape of key figures in the 2004 Burail jail break case, including Jagtar Singh Hawara.
Meanwhile, Sukhbir Singh Badal, the former president of SAD and former Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, was reportedly working on writings about Sikh militancy outside the Golden Temple on Wednesday morning. Further details about the case and Chauda’s motives are awaited.
