13,187 nomination filed for upcoming Panchayat elections- DC

Says, administration all set for conducting elections in a free, fair and transparent manner on October 15

Jalandhar News: Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today said that the district administration has received a total of 13,187 nomination papers for the upcoming Panchayat elections. Among these, 10,156 nominations were filed for the position of Panch, while 3,031 candidates are vying for the role of Sarpanch.

The secruitny of the nomination papers was conducted on Saturday, with the deadline for candidates to withdraw their nominations set for October 7, 2024, by 3 PM. Polling is scheduled to take place on October 15, 2024, with the entire electoral process concluding by October 16.

Dr. Aggarwal emphasized that all necessary arrangements have already been made to ensure a free, fair, and transparent election. He assured the public that adequate security measures are in place to maintain law and order, asserting that no individual will be allowed to disrupt the electoral process. The administration is committed to upholding the integrity of the elections and facilitating a smooth democratic exercise for the district’s residents. He urged the voters to exercise their right to franchise freely and judiciously. He also reviewed arrangements across the polling station to conduct these elections as per the guidelines of State Election Commission. The voting will be held between 8am to 4 pm and counting of votes will be started immediately after culmination of votes.
