Nominations open for municipal elections from Tuesday in Punjab
Chandigarh: The process of filing nominations for elections to five municipal corporations and 44 municipal councils in Punjab began on Tuesday. Nominations can be submitted daily from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the final date set for December 12, 2024.
The Election Commission has finalized arrangements, including the appointment of officers for overseeing nominations.
A total of 37,32,636 voters are eligible to participate in the election, comprising 19,55,888 men and 17,76,544 women. Voting will be conducted using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Key dates for the election process include December 13, 2024, for scrutiny of nominations and December 14, 2024, as the deadline for withdrawal of candidature until 3 p.m.
Polling is scheduled for December 21, 2024, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with vote counting to follow at polling stations the same day.
The election will cover 381 wards of municipal corporations and 598 wards of municipal councils and nagar panchayats.
A total of 3,809 polling booths have been established, with 344 classified as hypersensitive and 665 as sensitive.
