Nykaa faces backlash for selling cap with Sikh religious symbol

Chandigarh: In a controversial move, online shopping brand Nykaa has sparked outrage among the Sikh community for selling a cap featuring the sacred Sikh symbol ‘Ek Onkar.’ The black cap, priced at Rs 800, has the religious symbol engraved in 3D rubber and is being marketed as a “premium baseball cap” on the company’s website.

The incident has drawn sharp criticism from Sikh leaders, particularly from Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

In a press conference, Dhami condemned the company’s actions, calling it a “deliberate targeting of Sikhs.” He said that Sikh teachings explicitly prohibit the use of holy Gurbani words or symbols on clothing or accessories.

“This incident has deeply hurt Sikh sentiments worldwide,” Dhami stated. “Action will be taken, and a notice will be sent to Nykaa to prevent any further interference in Sikh religious practices.”

The controversy comes amidst ongoing concerns about the desecration of Sikh religious symbols and texts, adding to the community’s growing sense of grievance.
