Over 5.23 lakh hectares of wheat crop damaged due to unseasonal rains and hailstorms

Punjab News: Unseasonal rains, hailstorms and strong winds have damaged more than 5.23 lakh hectares of wheat crop in the three states, raising concerns of farmers and fears of a decline in wheat yield.

Apart from this, farmers are also afraid of the challenges of harvesting.
India is one of the major producers of wheat. According to officials, around 5.23 lakh hectares of wheat crop is estimated to have been damaged in the three states of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh due to inclement weather.
He said that the damage to wheat crop in Punjab and Haryana is being assessed. This year, wheat has been sown in about 34 million hectares.
Officials said the government is projecting a record wheat production of 112.2 million tonnes in the current 2022-23 crop year (July-June).
Union Agriculture Secretary Manoj Ahuja said that the government will hold a meeting with the state governments on April 3 to review the damage caused to wheat and other rabi crops due to unseasonal rains in the last two-three days.
